Always Another Horizon: Jose Miguel and Laura of Descubre Sin Límites

From Iceland’s wild plateaus to the dusty back roads of the American West, Peli ambassadors Jose Miguel and Laura have built a body of work that goes far beyond travel photography. Their project, Descubre Sin Límites, is a testament to what happens when curiosity, endurance, and a passion for storytelling converge, and to the role that trusted, reliable gear plays in making it all possible.

There is a particular kind of traveller who is never quite satisfied with arriving at a destination. For Jose Miguel and Laura, two professional photographers and drone pilots based in Spain, the journey has always been the point. Over more than a decade, they have travelled across some of the planet’s most remote and demanding environments, camera and tripod in hand, chasing the light, the landscape, and the story that ties them together.

What began as a personal passion for nature photography gradually evolved into Descubre Sin Límites, a platform that has grown into a reference point for adventure, outdoor photography, and travel storytelling in the Spanish-speaking world. Their collaboration with Peli has become an integral part of how they operate in the field, providing the confidence to take their equipment anywhere.

We sat down with Jose Miguel and Laura to talk about the origins of the project, the philosophy behind their expeditions, and why protection in the field is never an afterthought.

Descubre Sin Límites is built around the idea of making exploration accessible and meaningful for a wide audience. What inspired the creation of the project, and how has your vision evolved since its beginnings?

Our project gradually took shape over the years. We started with nature photography in its purest form, but we felt we were not reaching as far as we wanted. Until one day, everything clicked: it was not just about showing the final image, but about telling the whole story behind it, the journey, the waiting, the adventure. That is when Descubre Sin Límites was born, and from that moment on, everything truly began to flow.

It has been a long, challenging path, but also an incredibly rewarding one. We started from scratch, without contacts or connections in this world, and little by little, through learning, effort, and consistency, we have built what we are today. We know there is still a long way to go, but we are just as excited about the journey as we are about the destination. Because if there is one thing we have learned, it is that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and only those who keep moving forward get to keep chasing their dreams.

Your expeditions combine adventure, education and storytelling. How do you design each journey to ensure it delivers both a compelling narrative and real value for your audience?

Designing each trip is, without a doubt, one of the parts we enjoy the most, but it is also one of the most time-consuming and demanding. Some destinations can take years to truly take shape. We are constantly researching: reading books, studying maps, searching for locations. It does not matter what the next destination is, because often, by the time we decide, we already have hundreds of marked points waiting to be explored.

We are especially drawn to exotic destinations, places where nature takes centre stage. The wilder, the better. We look for locations that evoke emotion, that tell a story, and that have a powerful visual impact on their own. And, of course, adventure is an essential ingredient, the final touch that gives meaning and personality to everything we do.

Your content often highlights personal growth through exploration. Can you share a moment from one of your journeys that fundamentally changed your perspective?

Without a doubt, Iceland was a turning point in our journey. In 2014, after eight years travelling the world together, we decided to venture into this unique destination, an Iceland very different from today, much wilder and far less crowded. We explored the country camping, with a tent that was not exactly the right one. It rained every single day, we were soaked, we were cold, and still, we enjoyed it like never before.

But it was the following year, while planning our route along the West Coast of the United States, when we realised it was time to take things to the next level. We needed to evolve, invest in better gear, and approach our travels in a different way. That is how Descubre Sin Límites was born, along with our first collaboration with a brand in the outdoor industry, one that, eleven years later, we are still proudly working with.

A key part of your work is inspiring others to step beyond their comfort zones. What do you believe is the biggest barrier preventing people from pursuing their own adventures, and how do you aim to break it?

Adaptability is one of the most important skills when it comes to travelling. Being able to adjust to new cultures, ways of life, and perspectives is essential. When you explore different parts of the world, everything is different from your everyday reality, which is why keeping an open mind is not just important, it is necessary. New foods, customs, languages, ways of doing things. And that is where the magic lies: in discovery, in learning, in constant exploration. We are passionate about learning, discovering new perspectives, and challenging ourselves, because that is what allows us to keep growing, both personally and professionally.

On the other hand, language is often one of the biggest barriers for many people, and one of the questions we get asked the most. But we truly believe it should not hold anyone back. There are always ways to understand each other, to connect, to share. Communication goes far beyond words. So our advice is simple: leave your fears behind and go out in search of adventure.

In challenging environments, having reliable equipment is essential. How do Peli cases support your workflow, and what role do they play in protecting your gear during demanding expeditions?

Snow, mud, dust, water, and rough, bumpy roads, that is the environment we usually move in. It is where we enjoy ourselves the most and where we feel truly in our element. However, our filming equipment is also what suffers the most, what is most exposed, and what carries the highest risk of being damaged, to the point of potentially causing us to lose all the work we have done. This is something that has happened to us in the past, and it is precisely why we now value the protection we have even more.

Today, with the security provided by Peli, we are confident that those situations should not happen again. If there is one thing we know for sure, it is that we travel more protected than ever before.

Looking ahead, what legacy do you hope Descubre Sin Límites will leave, both as a project and as a source of inspiration for a new generation of explorers?

We would love for Descubre Sin Límites to be recognised as a lifestyle — a way of understanding the world and travelling — where there is always a new place to explore and a new adventure to tell. We believe that even if you travel to the same place twice, the journey is never the same, because you may return to the same destination, but you are no longer the same person who was there before. And we believe this also applies to people: everyone experiences, feels, and perceives the world in a different way.

We like to think of travel as an open book, still unfinished. A book we leave partially written so that others can complete it, adding their own pages, their own stories, and their own way of living adventure.

Jose Miguel and Laura remind us that adventure is never simply about reaching a destination. It is about how you travel, what you carry with you, and what you choose to leave behind. Through Descubre Sin Límites, they have woven together a philosophy of exploration that is open, generous, and endlessly curious, one that invites anyone, regardless of experience or background, to step out of their front door and start their own story.

As they continue to map new routes and capture new vistas, one thing remains unchanged: the belief that the world is an open book, still waiting to be written.
